چکیده

Methods In this case control study, 11 patients with long thoracic curves (imbalanced three-curve pattern or A1 from the Rigo classification) were treated with a specifically designed RSC brace called "three curves brace with open pelvis." These 11 patients were compared to a control group of 10 patients with the same age and curve magnitude, treated with a classical RSC brace for a three-curve scoliosis pattern. Patients with a combined upper thoracic structural curve were not included in any of the groups. The mean age was 10.5 years, mean Cobb angle was 29.5°, and mean axial rotation was 15°. The compared values were the in-brace correction of the Cobb angle and the axial rotation. Results The in-brace correction of the Cobb angle was 76.7% in the study group compared to 43.3% in the control group (p < .005). The in-brace correction of the axial rotation was 55.9% in the study group compared to 29.9% in the control group. from 6th International Conference on Conservative Management of Spinal Deformities Lyon, France. 21-23 May 2009

Effect of a Long-Term Corrective Exercises With Using Brace on Cobb Angle and Postural Control of a Girl With Adolescence Idiopathic Scoliosis

Purpose: Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine in which the resulting imbalance accompanied by the changes in muscle and nervous components can harm the postural control. Various treatments have been suggested so far to correct scoliosis, in which using corrective exercises along with brace are essential to limit the growing curvature, improve spine stability and postural cont...

Comparing In-Brace Correction, Compliance and Quality of Life in Patients with Thoracic Hyperkyphosis Wearing Milwaukee and Lyon Braces

Background: A thoracic curve degree of greater than 45° leads to thoracic hyperkyphosis, and its common treatment method is orthotic treatment. The acceptance rate of spinal orthosis depends on in-brace correction, patient`s compliance and quality of life. Objective: In this study, we aimed to compare in-brace correction, compliance and quality of life in patients with thoracic hyperkyphosis ...

Brace treatment in an infantile/juvenile patient with progressive scoliosis due to Marfan’s syndrome

Case report A two year old girl diagnosed with Marfan’s syndrome presented with a double major scoliosis of 20°. After a follow-up of 6 months she showed a rapid progression to 46° (November 2008) and was braced immediately. In-brace correction in the first brace (RSC) was moderate due to the stiffness mainly of the lumbar curve. A new brace was made after significant growth (Gensingen brace in...

The Effect of Dynamic Hyperextension Brace on Osteoporosis and Hyperkyphosis Reduction in Postmenopausal Osteoporotic Women

Background: Osteoporosis and hyperkyphosis could impose a considerable financial and therapeutic burden on the affected society. Thus, new strategies to prevent or manage such complications are of significant importance. Here we evaluate the effect of ‘Dynamic Hyperextension Brace’ (DHB) on bone density, and hyperkyphosis correction. Methods:Sixty postmenopausal women were randomly assigned to ...
